You’ll spend the night at Hotel Heinitzburg, a romantic castle hotel built in 1914 by Count Schwerin for his fiancée, Margarethe von Heinitz. This charming hotel combines 19th-century European elegance with modern comforts and features 16 spacious rooms. From the sun terrace, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the city. Overnight stay in Windhoek.
Day 2: Ongava Game Reserve
As you head north, you’ll travel through the bustling towns of Okahandja and Otjiwarongo. By early afternoon, you’ll arrive at your lodge located at the entrance of Etosha National Park. Keep your camera ready for your first wildlife viewing adventure, as you’ll embark on a game drive in your private vehicle that afternoon. Your accommodations for the night are at Ongava Lodge, situated within the private Ongava Game Reserve, adjacent to Etosha National Park. The lodge features comfortably furnished thatched chalets, providing a serene natural atmosphere for relaxation. From your terrace, you’ll have excellent opportunities to observe animals at the nearby waterhole. Overnight stay in Ongava Game Reserve.
Day 3-4: Etosha National Park and Onguma Game Reserve
As you traverse the vast salt pan, you’ll journey across Etosha National Park, stopping at various waterholes to maximize your chances of spotting wildlife. The term “Etosha” translates to “large, white square,” referring to what was once a vast, shallow inland lake that has since dried up. On the fourth morning, you’ll embark on an open off-road vehicle tour of Etosha Park alongside other guests from the lodge. If you’re eager for more wildlife encounters, you have the option of joining another game drive in the afternoon with your guide in a private vehicle. As the sun sets, you’ll exit the park and head to your accommodations for the next two nights at Onguma The Fort, located on the eastern side of Etosha National Park within the Onguma Game Reserve. The fort offers a delightful surprise with its classic African design infused with Moroccan and Indian influences. From your terrace, enjoy stunning views of the waterhole, and be sure to take advantage of the open-air shower. Overnight stay in Onguma Game Reserve.
Day 6-7 Bwabwata National Park
You will traverse the Okavango, which continues its journey into the delta, as you cross through Bwabwata National Park. Upon arrival at Nambwa Tented Lodge, you’ll check in for a two-night stay. In the afternoon, embark on your first game boat excursion on the Kwando River. The following day will be spent exploring the pristine wilderness, combining boat rides and game drives in an open safari vehicle with fellow guests. This area around the Kwando River is renowned for its large herds of elephants, sometimes numbering up to two hundred. The scenery is breathtaking, featuring expansive reed and papyrus wetlands, secluded bays, and lagoons adorned with blooming water lilies. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty, where over 400 bird species, as well as elephants and hippos, can be observed at close range. Overnight stays will be in the Congola region.
Day 8-9 On the Chobe Princess
You will depart early and arrive at the Botswana border, where you will cross into the country and head to Kasane Airport. Here, your driver guide will bid you farewell. A representative from Chobe Princess will then take you from the airport to the immigration office. After that, you will continue your journey by boat, completing a brief visit to Botswana before returning to Namibia. Upon boarding the Chobe Princess, your captain will provide an orientation. Your river cruise along the Chobe River will commence, so keep an eye out for excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. You’ll conclude your first day in the African wilderness on the houseboat with a sundowner drink.
On the second day, breakfast will be served early, followed by activities like fishing or wildlife viewing from a small dinghy. You will return to the houseboat for lunch, and after enjoying afternoon coffee, you can take a boat ride to experience an unforgettable sunset or simply relax on board the luxurious houseboat. From the ship, you will have the chance to observe wild animals in their natural habitat. Overnight accommodations will be on the Chobe Princess.
Day 10-11 Victoria Falls
As you savor your breakfast, the breathtaking scenery unfolds around you, offering your final views of the incredible wildlife. Afterward, you’ll return to the immigration offices of Namibia and Botswana via dinghy. In Kasane, your representative from Africa Royal Tours will greet you and assist you in crossing the border into Zimbabwe.
Once you’ve checked into the Victoria Falls Hotel, you’ll head to the stunning Victoria Falls in the early afternoon, joining other guests for the excursion. Straddling the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, these majestic falls span 2 kilometers in width and soar over 110 meters high, making them among the tallest waterfalls in the world. Allow yourself to be mesmerized by this remarkable site, and rain ponchos will be available at the entrance.
Your accommodation for the next few nights will be the renowned Victoria Falls Hotel. Established in 1904, this 5-star colonial-style hotel is regarded as the premier place to stay in Zimbabwe. Don’t miss the chance to watch the sunset from the terrace, which offers a stunning view of the Victoria Falls Bridge and the mist rising from the falls. You will overnight in Victoria Falls.
Day 12-13 Okavango Delta
Today, your Tours representative will escort you back across the border to Kasane in Botswana. There, a small plane awaits to take you to the Okavango Delta. From the air, you’ll be able to appreciate the vastness of the delta and its intricate network of waterways.
Over the next two days, you’ll engage in a variety of activities, including game drives in an open off-road vehicle, boat tours, hikes, and mokoro excursions, all with other lodge guests. Your accommodations will be at Shinde Camp, set beneath the shade of ancient fig and acacia trees, located on the edge of the Okavango Delta’s permanent floodplains. Shinde Camp is a magical retreat within the private Shinde Concession, renowned for its abundant wildlife. The camp is surrounded by clear water channels, attracting numerous bird species and other wildlife, including frequent sightings of leopards and lions.
Please keep in mind that all activities are subject to seasonal changes and weather conditions, which may affect your itinerary. Walking safaris and mokoro excursions, in particular, can be influenced by heavy rains that lead to dense vegetation and reduced visibility. You will overnight at Shinde Camp.
Day 14-15 Okavango Delta
A brief flight in a small propeller plane will take you to Kanana Camp, located in the southwestern part of the Okavango Delta. You will spend the next two nights amidst grassy islands created by fertile termite mounds. The Kanana area features a series of islands along the Xudum River, situated northeast of the Pom-Pom Lagoon, offering a serene environment where time seems to stand still, with watercourses winding through open lagoons.
The water levels fluctuate throughout the year, influencing the available activities. However, the camp managers expertly curate a diverse range of safari experiences for you. You can look forward to game drives, mokoro and boat excursions, and bush walks. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience wildlife from a fresh perspective. Kanana Camp is one of the few in the delta that has access to a private breeding colony, where many migratory birds nest from July onwards. You’ll have the chance to see bird species such as marabou, yellow-saddled, and gap-billed storks. The sight of thousands of nesting birds is truly captivating and will leave a lasting impression. You will overnight at Kanana Camp.
Day 16 Farewell to Botswana
In the morning, you’ll be transported to the airstrip, where you’ll board a bush plane headed for Maun. This marks the end of your African adventure as you begin your onward journey or head back home.
