Day 1 Selous Game Reserve
Karibu Sana! Welcome to Tanzania. After your arrival at Dar Es Salaam Airport, you will be met by an Wildebeestwander Expenditions’ representative and transferred to your connecting flight in the Selous Game Reserve. Once you arrive at the airfield, you will be greeted by a driver from Siwandu Camp, your accommodation for the next three nights. With an area of around 50,000 km², the Selous Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in Africa and awaits you with the vast and endless expanse of the East African savannah. Black and white colobus monkeys live in the surrounding alluvial forests and magnificently horned sable and kudu antelopes use the shady bushes as grazing areas. After a delicious lunch at the camp, you will go stalking for the first time! You will use the rest of the evening to recover from your journey. Siwandu Camp is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Nzerakera. The ten octagonal chalets are spread out along the riverbank. Here, after exciting safari experiences, you can enjoy the sunset from your terrace with a cool drink and watch the African bush slowly turn red at dusk. Overnight at Siwandu Camp.
Day 2 – 3 Selous Game Reserve
Over the next two days, you will conquer the Selous Game Reserve. You will explore the surroundings of Siwandu Camp on organized game drives. With its rivers, plains and lakes, you will get a great impression of the African wilderness. An exciting morning game drive, a relaxed lunch and a birdwatching drive in the late afternoon – this is what your daily routine could look like. Siwandu is a place where you like to take a nap in the shade of the veranda to the cries of the eagles, and in the afternoon go back on an eventful search for clues. As a park in the south of Tanzania, the intimacy and relaxed atmosphere is one of the strengths of the Selous Game Reserve. Off the beaten track, this is the opportunity to make the dream of Africa come true. Overnight stays as the day before at Siwandu Camp.
Day 4 Ruaha National Park
After a hearty breakfast, hop on to Ruaha National Park in a small propeller plane. Upon arrival, you will be met by the driver guide of Kwihala Camp, your accommodation for the next three nights. Already on the drive to the camp you will experience your first game drive. A big advantage of Ruaha compared to other national parks is that there are very few lodges and correspondingly few tourists, and yet it is the largest national park in Tanzania. The park is considered a transition zone where the eastern and western plant areas unite; together, the protected area is home to over 1,650 plant species and over 450 species of birds. With a bit of luck, you can experience some impressive animal encounters before you arrive at Kwihala Camp in the evening. “Kwihala” means “bush” – let yourself be enchanted by a unique stay in the middle of the African bush. The six shelters, designed in light canvas fabrics, are generously spread across the camp grounds and offer beautiful views and optimal wildlife viewing opportunities from their large, private veranda. Overnight at Kwihala Camp.
Day 5 – 6 Ruaha National Park
The following two days you will enjoy the wilderness and beauty of Ruaha National Park. Two game drives per day, together with the experienced guides of the camp, give you the opportunity to experience unique moments and animal encounters in the middle of nature. If you wish, a full day with a picnic lunch in the bush can also be organised for you (optional). Ruaha National Park is located in the heart of Tanzania, is considered rather inaccessible and is not visited by tourist crowds. The reward of a visit: a wild landscape with baobab-studded hills and rocky escarpments, magnificent concentrations of predators and huge herds of elephants and buffaloes. One of the main attractions in the park is the greater and lesser kudu, as well as the majestic sable and roan antelopes – which you may be lucky enough to spot. Overnight stays as the day before at Kwihala Camp.
Day 7 Zanzibar
Goodbye wonderful Tanzanian wilderness. Today you unfortunately have to say goodbye to the Kwihala Camp, you continue to the spice island of Zanzibar. From the Sumbazi airfield, you will fly by small plane to Stone Town on Zanzibar after breakfast. Once there, your Africa Royal Tours representative will welcome you and drive you to your accommodation. The island will fascinate you: on the street you will be offered refreshing sugar cane juice with lime and ginger, the half-veiled Zanzibari women sitting laughing and chatting on stone benches in front of their houses, old Zanzibari playing the local board game “Bao” – all this is Stone Town. A unique city that will captivate you. You will spend the next seven nights on the southeast coast of the island at the luxurious Baraza Resort & Spa. It is located on the 240 m long and fine sandy beach of Bwejuu. The boutique hotel’s combination of Arabic, Tanzanian and Indian design elements is reminiscent of the time of the Sultan of Zanzibar. All villas are spread over a large area along the coast, giving a feeling of peace and serenity. Overnight at Baraza Resort & Spa.
Day 8-13 Swimming in Zanzibar
Enjoy five wonderful beach days on the island of Zanzibar. Relax on the sandy beach named a Top 30 Beaches by Conde Nast Traveller. Your spacious villa is decorated with classic Swahili features as well as beautiful Arabic arches and cement decorations. In addition to the luxurious furnishings, stylish fabrics and handcrafted furniture and lamps create a feel-good atmosphere. On the private terrace there is a plunge pool with sunbathing facilities for relaxing. The Baraza Resort & Spa skilfully combines seclusion and luxury in one. Ideal for a relaxing stay at the beach.
